Archaeologists at Jesmond Dene

Oak class continued their adventures in Science this week as archaeologists at Jesmond Dene. Everyone dug for rocks in the soil and found lots to bring home – many of them were orange which no one expected. We then went to the river to see if there were rocks at the bottom as well. We found much bigger rocks in the river and they were round and clean. Following our digs we enjoyed a picnic before seeing the animals at Pets Corner and visiting the play park before home time. What a fantastic day out!

Following our trip we discussed the photos taken before writing all about our activities. We then cleaned and compared the rocks found. The river rocks were described as ‘smooth’ and the rocks from soil were ‘muddy’ and ‘bumpy’. Everyone had a great time painting their own rocks in Art.

Next time in Science we will be exploring fossils.
